Security Leadership from Someone Who Has Done the Work.

Zach Baumgart, founder of B Safe Advisor Group

I am a Virginia-licensed private investigator, Certified Fraud Examiner, paramedic, and former federal special agent. I started B Safe Advisor Group to give small and medium-sized organizations, houses of worship, and families in Northern Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley the kind of security leadership that large employers take for granted.

Background

For more than 25 years, I have dedicated myself to keeping people and organizations safe. I began as a volunteer EMT in college and went on to serve as a paramedic, firefighter, and local law enforcement officer. I then spent 17 years as a federal special agent with the U.S. Department of State, including its Diplomatic Security Service (DSS) and Office of Inspector General (OIG), and with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) OIG. In these roles, I:

  • Protected U.S. embassies and consulates around the globe by managing physical security programs, armed guard forces, and emergency planning.
  • Provided executive protection, threat assessment, and threat management for the Secretary of State, senior government officials, and visiting foreign diplomats.
  • Led internal affairs and administrative investigations of allegations against law enforcement officers, senior government officials, and political appointees.
More of my federal experience
  • Served as the Sex Crimes Investigations program manager for the Department of State, where I led high-impact, victim-centric investigations and drafted the Department of State's worldwide policy on responding to allegations of sexual assault.
  • Managed up to 40 special agents investigating public corruption, contract fraud, grant fraud, and personnel misconduct, first as an Assistant Special Agent in Charge (ASAC) with the Department of State OIG and USAID OIG, and later as an Acting Special Agent in Charge (A/SAC) with USAID OIG.
  • Served as a criminal investigator and task force officer on the FBI Boston Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF), where I led and took part in threat assessments, terrorism investigations, and responses.

Why I Started B Safe Advisor Group

At U.S. embassies and consulates around the world, I saw what good security looks like: a security director, tested plans, trained staff, and regular drills. Back home, the organizations I care about most had none of it. Small businesses, schools, houses of worship, and families face the same theft, fraud, threats, and emergencies, yet few have an experienced security professional to call.

Having made Loudoun County my home since 2019 and having retired from the federal government, I wanted to start making a difference in the community by using my unique background and skillset. So I founded B Safe Advisor Group to close the gap between large organizations and everyone else, giving you someone who knows your organization, answers your call, and tells you the truth about your risks and how to mitigate them, without the cost of a full-time hire.

How I Work

What that experience taught me is that security is a balance. Every organization has a budget, a mission, and people who have to do their jobs. My approach is to work with everyone affected and build protections that are affordable and that people will follow. I do not sell guards, alarms, cameras, or equipment, so my only interest is giving you the best advice and service.

Based in Ashburn, in Loudoun County, I work with small and medium-sized organizations and families across Northern Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley through Physical Security Audits, Emergency Procedures, Threat Assessment and Management, Private Investigations, Background Investigations, Skip Tracing and Missing Persons, Travel Security, and Training, either one at a time or as part of a Security Director on Demand contract. If you are not sure where to start, call, text, or send me a message.
