The Course
A six-hour course covering the most common security and safety issues that lead to trouble and risky situations for students living away from home. Among the topics covered are:
- Fire safety
- Road safety
- Apartment and dorm security and safety
- Nightlife safety, including alcohol and drug awareness (opioids and Narcan)
- Awareness and warning signs of drug-facilitated sexual assault, commonly referred to as “date rape” drugs
- Medical emergencies
- Situational awareness
- Active Threat Response (commonly referred to as active shooter or armed intruder training)
- Travel safety
- Other personal safety topics
The course is designed for students preparing to live away from home for the first time who are:
- High school juniors and seniors
- High school graduates, whether headed to college, trade school, or elsewhere
Length: six hours, mostly lecture with built-in discussions and real-world examples of what can happen to students living on their own.
Cost: approximately $125 per student for prescheduled sessions.
About Your Instructor
I have spent more than 25 years in public safety as a paramedic, firefighter, local law enforcement officer, and federal special agent. As a special agent, I worked overseas providing security and protection to U.S. government personnel and their families across the globe.
I am an expert at providing training on situational awareness and security matters and developing plans to keep people safe.
I was trained as an instructor by the Council of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency (CIGIE) and the U.S. Department of State's Diplomatic Security Training Center.
