Security Services for Medical Offices

Security, safety, and investigative services for medical offices in Northern Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley.

Independent Advice, with Nothing to Sell

I do not sell security guards, alarms, cameras, or any other products or equipment. I only provide my services, so my advice is never tied to something I am selling. My only interest is giving you honest advice and the best client service.

How I Help Medical Offices

I serve every type of medical office, including primary care, pediatric, dental, specialty, urgent care, behavioral health, surgical, and therapy practices, from solo practitioners to multi-location groups.

Security Director on Demand

  • Direct access to an experienced Security Director for security and safety questions.
  • I act as your dedicated liaison with law enforcement, fire, and EMS agencies.
  • I conduct independent, confidential investigations of theft, drug diversion, workplace misconduct, and other incidents.
  • I conduct threat assessments and develop threat mitigation plans as part of your contract.

Threat Assessment and Management

  • Threats against healthcare workers are rising in severity and frequency. Source: O'Brien et al., eClinicalMedicine, 2024
  • I assess and investigate threats from patients, family members, and others, and I help you decide how to respond before a situation escalates.
  • I develop threat management and mitigation plans, and I coordinate with law enforcement as appropriate.

Emergency Procedures

  • I audit, test, and review your office protocols for threats, workplace violence, and emergencies.
  • I develop and update contingency plans for Active Threat Response (commonly referred to as active shooter or armed intruder training), irate, threatening, or aggressive patients, medical crises, and facility evacuations.
  • I conduct staff de-escalation training and run emergency preparedness drills.

Physical Security Audits

  • An independent audit of your office space, handling of patient financial and health information, handling of controlled items, general building facilities, and parking lots.
  • I identify gaps, vulnerabilities, and risks, and I develop actionable, cost-effective solutions.

Background Investigations

  • Rigorous, multi-jurisdictional background screening of staff, administrators, and vendors.
  • I use proprietary databases that are available only to licensed firms, I conduct interviews, and I analyze the results myself as a former law enforcement officer to find red flags that automatic and instant background check services miss.

My Experience

I began my career as an EMT and a paramedic and went on to spend more than 25 years in public safety and federal law enforcement, including time as a local law enforcement officer and a federal special agent. As a paramedic, I have cared for patients in crisis, so I know that security measures in a medical office must never get in the way of patient care. As a federal special agent, I provided threat assessment and management and led investigations of fraud and misconduct. I am a Nationally Registered Paramedic (NRP) and a licensed Virginia private investigator (DCJS), and I was trained as an instructor by the Council of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency and the U.S. Department of State's Diplomatic Security Training Center. Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need all five services?

No. Each of my services is available individually or as part of a Security Director on Demand contract.

Who does the work?

I do all of the work myself. I do not hand your project to subcontractors.

Do you sell guards, cameras, or alarms?

No. I do not sell security guards, alarms, cameras, or any other products or equipment, so my advice for your medical office is independent.

How much does it cost?

The cost depends on the services you choose and the size and needs of your office. For example, a 12-month Security Director on Demand contract for a typical medical office would cost about $500 per month. This contract would include:

  • Direct access to me during business hours.
  • Physical Security Audit of all office space and surrounding areas including parking lots.
  • A review of all current Emergency Plans with critical updates immediately addressed. Over the course of the contract, all Emergency Plans will be fully reviewed, updated, or drafted as needed.
  • Monthly staff training on Emergency Plans or any other training you request.
  • Monthly personal check-in to keep you updated on the status of ongoing projects and address any concerns.
  • Unlimited consultations for potential Private Investigations for issues such as employee misconduct, theft, financial fraud, or other matters.
  • Up to two threat assessments every month with additional threat assessments charged at a discounted rate.
  • Six Level 1 Background Investigations.
  • A 15% discount on any other or additional services during the contract period.
Can you work around patient appointments?

Yes. I schedule audits, staff training, and drills around your appointment schedule so that patient care is not interrupted.

Can you help with irate, threatening, or aggressive patients?

Yes. I train your staff in de-escalation, I develop procedures for irate, threatening, or aggressive patients, and I assess and investigate threats, then develop threat mitigation plans to keep you and your staff safe.
